Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Technology was established in 1980 by late Sri M.H. Jayaprakash Narayan, who was twice MLA, Ex-Syndicate/Senate member of Bangalore University, a visionary and an educationist. He was a strong follower of the Principles of the Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and thus built the institute on his ideals. It is a grant-in-aid institution of Government of Karnataka.

FACTS
As a grant-in-aid institution of Government of Karnataka, 95% of the seats are filled up purely by merit of students as reflected by the results of Common Entrance Test (CET). The 24-acre campus is situated on the Outer Ring Road, adjacent to Jnana Bharathi campus of Bangalore University, just 10 km from the heart of Bangalore city. NBA accredits the majority of the departments.

The library, located in Dr. Ambedkar Centenary Bhavan, is well equipped with over 39,000 Volumes and over 12,000 titles for under graduate courses. It also has 5,000 volumes & 1,200 titles for postgraduate courses. A separate P.G. Library is available. Provisions for playing Cricket, Volleyball, Basketball, Shuttle badminton, Table Tennis is available, along with Multi Gym facilities. The college has a part-time doctor for medical support.
